Is Your Flat Screen TV Safely Installed?
Flat screen TVs while growing in popularity are also adding to the number of accidents involving children. Almost half of all furniture related incidents involve televisions; most of those incidents involve children 3 years or younger. Improperly installed, not anchored or placed on the wrong piece of furniture have all attributed to this increase in accidents. The new flat screens come with a smaller base and have a narrower center of gravity. Unfortunately, this makes them easier for children to accidently move or displace.

Here are some tips for safe installation:

  • Make sure your TV comes with the right size base for the model
  • If placing the TV on a piece of furniture, make sure the furniture is steady and does not have any drawers
  • Anchor the furniture and/or the television to the wall
  • Never place the remote or any other enticing object or toy on the same piece of furniture
  • When installing on the wall, have the correct hardware and use the right tools
  • Hide all wires so they can’t be accidently pulled
  • Consider professional installation if you have any doubts.
