Proctor & Gamble Extends Pet Food Recall
Proctor & Gamble has extended their recent pet food recall to include Iams and Eukanuba brands sold at veterinary clinics and specialty pet retailers throughout the United States and Canada.  On July 25, 2010, Proctor & Gamble recalled their Feline Renal Diet Formula because of possible salmonella contamination.  The extended recall is being done as a precautionary measure since the additional brands were made at the same facility.

The recall includes dry food, dated 01July10 through 01Dec11, all sizes, varieties and UPC codes for the following:
  • Iams Veterinary Dry
  • Eukanuba Naturally Wild
  • Eukanuba Pure
  • Eukanuba Custom Care
All recalled pet food should be discarded immediately. Both pets and people handling the pet food could become infected with salmonella. No infections have been reported.

Signs that your pet has salmonella are decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.  The symptoms could lead to lethargy, diarrhea and vomiting. If your pet has consumed any of the recalled food, you should contact your veterinarian.

Salmonella poisoning in adults or children include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain and fever. Contact your health care professional if you exhibit any symptoms of salmonella poisoning.

Canned pet food is not included in this recall. Proctor & Gamble has a toll free number for further information 877-340-8823. (Monday - Friday, 9AM to 6PM EST).
