The Value of SEO for Law Firms
By now your law firm should have its own website. Even if it is one page, you know you need to have a presence on the internet. The days of yellow pages are ending. If someone is looking for a lawyer, the first place they’ll go to is Google (or Bing or Yahoo).

Having a good looking and easily navigable web site can mean a world of difference. A law firm should look professional and informational. Most people the first time they search for something, it is usually for information purposes only. Legal services are like any other professional service in that clients may interview or review several different firms before making a decision to go forward.

The competition out there is stiff. It’s impossible to determine how many new websites are created everyday – but – you should know that one of those new websites will be competing with you for clients.

Once you website is created it can’t just sit there and look pretty. It is an important advertising tool that needs to and can work for you. That is where search engine optimization (SEO) comes in.

SEO is using identifying key words and phrases so that Google, or any of the other search engines, will find you first. What that means is that when someone searches for a “San Diego Dog Bite Attorney”, if that’s what you practice, you may have a good chance of appearing in the first few pages of the search results.  What you’ve done is make it easier for prospective clients to find you.

Whether the prospective clients either follow up with filling out the contact form on the website or calling you, it’s still a contact that found you on the internet. Your firm was listed in the search results because you’ve said to the search engines, “Here I am!”  Your new client found you on the internet because you embraced the value of search engine optimization.

Hiring an experienced SEO firm, especially one that’s only focus is the legal industry, will determine what key words and phrases are the best for prospective clients to find you. Don’t make it any harder for you out there. Remember if your clients are using SEO you should also be embracing this very valuable tool.
