Realities in SEO Land
The Many Sides of SEO
For attorneys who are investing in online marketing, there are many things to consider about Search Engine Optimization. But the most important reality of SEO is that results don’t happen overnight.
The top rankings on Google are extremely competitive for broad terms in popular areas such as: personal injury attorney New York. These keywords would take a considerable amount of resources to rank toward the top of search results because there are so many attorneys who would like more clients in a densely populated practice area.
How business climates affect SEO
Your SEO practitioner should be able to tweak your campaign and suggest new approaches to match the changing business climate. It’s important to view SEO as a service that evolves to address changes in a dynamic environment.
For example, a law practice may decide to invest in the keywords “construction attorney,” yet halfway through the campaign, the construction industry comes to a screeching halt. Construction and the building of new homes are completely dried up. In this instance, the SEO professional would revisit the campaign to address another aspect of the attorney’s overall law practice.
How competition affects SEO
SEO is dynamic and as such must be constantly monitored and updated with market behaviors. Not only are industries changing based on consumer behavior, but the competition is changing as well. Your competitors are changing the way they market themselves online on a regular basis. This means that their rankings will affect the SEO environment which you are a part of. SEO must change according to both consumer behavior and the behavior of your competition.
How robots and spiders affect SEO
In addition to the business climate and the competition shaping SEO practices, so too will search engines. The search engines use algorithms, known as robots or spiders, to scan sites for relevancy to determine the order of the search engine results pages (SERPS). The search engines continuously change these algorithms to adjust to the dynamic climate of the Internet and the amount of websites that compete with each other for rankings.
In the past, search engines based relevancy on content. While they still do today, there are many other factors that affect a Web page’s relevancy including; the amount of links on the site, the credibility of the information and types of content including images and video.
The most popular sites will include helpful information for the visitor that is frequently updated and has links pointing out and in to website with a high amount of traffic.

V.P. Marketing
I agree with everything Heather mentions. Unfortunately, especially with one person law firms, trying to match the funds of the larger firms in their SEO efforts can be a problem. Is there a solution to this? Can you offer any advice?
