Google Announces Fresher Search Results

Google announced today that they have made a significant improvement to their ranking system which will impact roughly 35 percent of searches and will better determine when to give more up-to-date results based on various degrees of freshness.  Depending on which search terms you use, this new “freshness” algorithm will figure out if the most relevant recent results are from an hour, day or week ago. Information today may be irrelevant tomorrow.

Anonymous Posting Your Days May Be Numbered: Court Rules Newspaper Must Hand Over Identities of Anonymous Posters
In court rulings by an Indiana Superior Court , the operators of the websites for The Indianapolis Star, Indianapolis Business Journal and WRTV were ordered to turn over information that could be used to identify people who posted as anonymous commentators involved in a local defamation case.

Proctor & Gamble Extends Pet Food Recall
Proctor & Gamble has extended their recent pet food recall to include Iams and Eukanuba brands sold at veterinary clinics and specialty pet retailers throughout the United States and Canada.  On July 25, 2010, Proctor & Gamble recalled their Feline Renal Diet Formula because of possible salmonella contamination.  The extended recall is being done as a precautionary measure since the additional brands were made at the same facility.

The Lower Marion School District of Ardmore, PA faces another lawsuit over the installation of software meant to locate lost or stolen school supplied laptops.

Gov. Schwarzenegger Vetoes Field Worker Overtime Changes
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger just vetoed legislation proposed by Senate Majority Lead Dean Florez , D-Shafter, that would change the overtime law as it pertains to farm workers.

Currently, farm workers receive overtime after working 10 hours in a day or 60 hours in a week. Most other Californians are eligible for overtime after an 8 hour day or a 40 hour work week.

Toyota Steering Defect Recall Investigation
Auto maker Toyota, Inc. was served with a Federal Grand Jury subpoena regarding faulty steering relay rods in their vehicles.  In 2004 Toyota issued a recall for defective steering relay rods in Japan stating then that the recall was isolated to vehicles sold only in Japan. Later they extended the recall to the United States. Recall notices were sent to 977,000 trucks from model years 1990 to 1995.
